Stepping into the Future – Celebrating our Interns

At !Khwa ttu we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. It lies in experience, connection, and the courage to step into new opportunities. On 9 April 2026, we will celebrate an important milestone, as our latest group of interns graduate from their six-month Livelihoods Training Internship.

Over the past six months, these young individuals have grown not only in knowledge and skills, but also in confidence and purpose. Through hands-on training, teamwork, and cultural learning, they have embraced the spirit of !Khwa ttu, strengthening both their personal journeys and their connection to heritage and community.

One of the standout highlights of the internship was a memorable visit to Cape Point National Park, where our interns stepped beyond the classroom and into the wild beauty of the Great South African Kelp Forest and its coastline. For two immersive days, they joined the fantastic Sea Change team to explore the fascinating world of intertidal tracking.

Guided by master tracker Craig Foster (yes, he of My Octopus Teacher fame – we really do have some fab friends!), the interns learned how to read the subtle signs left behind by ocean life. From tiny tracks in the sand to movements beneath the water’s surface, they discovered how careful observation can reveal the hidden stories of the shoreline.

Their journey of discovery then took them on to historic Robben Island. During their visit, interns participated in a guided tour that explored the powerful history of the island. They learned stories of resilience, struggle, and freedom and discovered a valuable perspective on their ancestors’ past and their future as San youth.

These experiences form part of what makes the !Khwa ttu internship so special. Blending, as it does, practical skills, cultural heritage, and environmental awareness with personal growth. As graduation approaches, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to this inspiring group of interns. Their dedication and hard work over the past six months have laid a strong foundation for the journeys that lie ahead.
